About Elizabeth

I write because I have to, it feels like an imperative!

That is hard for my friends and family to understand but people have been very supportive, and I know other authors have the same need to write. Setting up my business has turned that outpouring into a structured and revenue-producing activity.

My journalism supports my authoring as well, as writing business books is not lucrative. I freelance in what feels like a safe environment, as I also work for a company which means I don't have to rely just on my freelance earnings. I would fully recommend this type of portfolio career.

The advice I would offer someone stepping into freelancing would be to get a smartphone so you can work in odd moments of time, and make sure that it is set up with your full email signature with links to your website and Twitter profile, use every opportunity of contact with clients to promote your message.

I think my freelancing business is engaging because it's representative of the 5-to-9 economy, people doing what they love for money, around the edges of other employment. I love writing, and I love business, and I'm very lucky to have found a way to be able to combine these.
