Member's News Best Practise

Read on to find out how to get the best results from our Members News.

Press Release Title
1. Add a catchy title that is keyword rich.

2. Page Title Top Tips:

* The web page title will be based on this name and therefore optimised for search engines to find your page.
Ensure your page title is up to 25 Characters.
* We have Page Title SEO in place to further optimise your page title up to the SEO best practise standard of 70 characters. In the end results you will see: "A News Story About [page-title]"

Example: A page title with "iHubbub Launches Social Network For Home Workers"

Becomes "A News Story: iHubbub Launches Social Networking For Home Workers

Press Release Short Description
3. Upload a logo or image up to 1MB, png, gif and jpegs are allowed and must be between 80 x 80 and 640 x 480 pixels.

Your description is used in our On Page Optimisation to describe your press release or news story so optimise this as you would optimise your website. See iHubbub's Founder Paula Wynne's SEO Workshops if you need help on optimisation.

The really important meta tag is the meta description. The meta description should be - as your press release should be - a brief sentence to summarize the page or your press release news story.

When a search engine lists your press release page in the search engine results pages, it will use the page title and your meta description for the text snippet. Therefore the meta description should be written with human visitors in mind. You want a text snippet that is going to make them want to click on the link. Adding the relevant and specific keywords about your press release news story will help them (and Google) to see why they want to read your results link.

Description SEO Top Tips:

* Your meta description should be between 10 and 25 words.
* We automatically use the first 25 words of your description to optimise your directory listing.
Increase the number of keywords to ensure a keyword rich quick and snappy description 1st sentence.

Press Release Body Text

4. Place your press release body text here. Use this space wisely, you may want to read these articles on how to write a press release and check out this press release template before you start to write your own press release.

Press Release Keywords

 * Also ensure you use your product or service's primary keywords.
Your meta keywords should be between 5 and 50 words.

* Your meta keywords should ideally include 1 to 15 phrases, which is a few words strung together to form a long-tail keyword.
The keyword phrases that you use in your description and body text should occur in your  keywords field at least 1 to 2 times.

Meta keyword tags are not meant to be used for keyword stuffing. Don't do that, instead use them to creatively add relevant and specific keywords.

Editor's Notes

10. You will be asked to supply your contact details so journalists and editors can browse to find out more about you, your product or service. We suggest you give your iHubbub Directory Link or use this format to prevent spam: Use ‘at’ instead of ’@’ and ‘dot com’ instead of ‘.com’.

What is a press release?
A press release is a notice or story sent to the media with the aim of attracting their interest and gaining valuable editorial space in their publication. A press release can be sent directly to your chosen media contact or through a newswire or PR Planning service. Your press release should be well-written before you submit it to the media.

Prepare a press release
Before we get started on writing your press release, take a few minutes or more to think about what you want to achieve. Before you check out this Press Release Template, here are some things to consider.

Press release goals
Why are you trying to get news coverage? What do you hope to achieve? Do you want to increase traffic to your site at the same time as getting media attention? Do you want to sell products or your services? Do you have a big event, conference or product launch?

Press release goals
Who do you want to reach? Local, regional, national, specialist or global media. Know your visitors and what they read, where they hang out so you can find them through the media they read and visit.

Audience  Who do you want to reach? Who is your ideal target? Are there several different target audiences?

Press release language
A B2B or B2C audience? This will determine if the language should be business and corporate or chatty for the consumer.

Press release timings
Is this for an event or product launch? What are the timings? How will they affect your release and news coverage? Confirm the publication’s lead times to check you don’t miss any deadlines.

Do you need any research or stats? Have you got all the correct facts to hand? Is there anything else that would or could add value to your release?

Are there any stunning shots you can include with the release. Try and always include a human angle in your releases and therefore add a head and shoulder photograph.

Press kit
Is your press kit ready? It is always best to prepare your press kit before your release so you can get the feel for how to approach your media needs. It will also help you to focus on your message and goals.

Social Media
Don’t forget to add your social media links to all your press releases.

Clients and visitors
Include your clients, customers and visitors when you send out releases. Send them all your news and you may be pleasantly surprised that some may lead to enquiries or even sales.

Don't run the editor’s gauntlet and risk your press release or PR Pitch being binned because it is not newsworthy. Look at these tips to be sure your story is worthy of being read:

Winning an award or receiving an accolade
Book launch, product launch or new innovative service
Open day with demonstrations and freebies to the public
Charity events - celebrities increase newsworthiness
Community project
Human interest

And don't give them any of this:

Not Newsworthy

× Advertising
× Special offers
× Promotions
× Techie jargon
× Old news

Keep your press release short, simple, to the point with key message, like a synopsis of your business, product or service.
